Domestic Violence Restraining Order Clinic - Central Courthouse (Downtown)
: Volunteer attorneys are needed to interview clients, complete forms, and draft declarations in support of clients' requests for temporary restraining orders. No previous experience is necessary to volunteer as one-on-one mentorship, templates, and training will be provided.
Domestic Violence Restraining Order Clinic - Vista Courthouse
: Volunteer attorneys are needed to interview clients, complete forms, and draft declarations in support of clients' requests for temporary restraining orders. No previous experience is necessary to volunteer as one-on-one mentorship, templates, and training will be provided.
Domestic Violence Restraining Order Clinic - East County Courthouse (El Cajon)
: Volunteer attorneys are needed to interview clients, complete forms, and draft declarations in support of clients' requests for temporary restraining orders. No previous experience is necessary to volunteer as one-on-one mentorship, templates, and training will be provided.
Domestic Violence Restraining Order Clinic - Downtown Family Justice Center
: Family Justice Centers ("FJCs") provide comprehensive legal, medical and professional services to survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. By providing wrap-around services in one location, FJCs reduce the number of places survivors must go for help and tell their story, and increase access to critical support for survivors and their children. Volunteer attorneys are needed to interview clients, complete forms, and draft declarations in support of clients' requests for temporary restraining orders. No previous experience is necessary to volunteer as one-on-one mentorship, templates, and training will be provided.
Domestic Violence Restraining Order Clinic - North County Family Justice Center (San Marcos)
: Family Justice Centers ("FJCs") provide comprehensive legal, medical and professional services to survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. FJCs focus on reducing the number of places survivors must go for help and tell their story, and increase access to critical support for survivors and their children. Volunteer attorneys are needed to interview clients, complete forms, and draft declarations in support of clients' requests for temporary restraining orders. No previous experience is necessary to volunteer as one-on-one mentorship, templates, and training will be provided.
Represent Clients at Domestic Violence Restraining Order Hearings
: Volunteer attorneys are needed to represent clients at their in-person and remote restraining order hearings. No previous experience is necessary to volunteer, as one-on-one mentorship, a manual, templates, and a training video will be provided.
Education Law Program
: SDVLP’s Education Law Program provides advocacy to foster youth with special education needs. Typically, foster youth are struggling academically, and often lack a strong advocate to obtain the educational assistance to which they are entitled. No previous experience is necessary to volunteer, as mentorship and training will be provided.
Family Law Representation
: SDVLP is seeking volunteer attorneys to represent low-income clients in a variety of family law areas including divorce, child custody, child support, and spousal support. Volunteers are needed to interview clients, prepare necessary forms and paperwork, and represent clients at remote and in-person hearings. Both experienced and inexperienced attorneys are needed. For attorneys with no previous experience, mentorship, templates, and training will be provided.
Guardianship Program
: Volunteer attorneys are needed to interview clients remotely and in person, Guardianship of a minor is often needed when parents are no longer able to care for their child. Parents may be deceased, uninvolved, incarcerated, or unwilling to continue to care for their child. SDVLP’s Guardianship Program assists the person caring for the child, a potential guardian, to successfully navigate the process of obtaining legal custody of the child, helping the caregiver to better provide a safe and stable home. Volunteer attorneys are needed to interview clients remotely and in person, draft necessary paperwork and represent clients at their remote and in-person hearings. No previous experience is necessary to volunteer, as a manual, mentorship, and templates will be provided.
HIV/AIDS Law Legal Services Program
: There are over 18,000 San Diegans living with HIV/AIDS. Many are impoverished and need advice on civil legal issues. SDVLP’s HIV/AIDS Legal Program is seeking volunteer attorneys to represent clients on a variety of legal issues relating to medical care, housing, estate planning, employment, public benefits, and other matters. No previous experience is necessary to volunteer, as mentorship and training will be provided.
Microbusiness & Nonprofit Support Program (MNSP)
: SDVLP is seeking experienced volunteer attorneys to represent low-income entrepreneurs and small businesses in a variety of areas including entity formation, contracts, employment law, intellectual property, real estate, and insurance.
Tenants' Rights Program
: SDVLP is seeking volunteer attorneys to represent low-income clients in a variety of housing issues. Volunteers are needed to remotely and in-person interview clients, prepare letters, prepare necessary forms and paperwork, and represent clients at hearings. No experience is necessary as mentorship and training will be provided.
Vacatur Program
: Represent survivors of human trafficking, interpersonal and sexual violence in vacatur proceedings to clear criminal records related to their victimization.
Unlawful Detainer Clinic – Vista Courthouse
: SDVLP is seeking attorneys to volunteer in person at our North County Unlawful Detainer Clinic. Volunteers are needed to provide information and assist self-represented litigants with completing forms needed to represent themselves in eviction and other housing matters. No experience is necessary as mentorship and training will be provided.
